All our meetings will be held in the Wesley Room at Droitwich Methodist Church, Worcester Road, commencing at 7.30 pm with Society news and after the speaker's presentation, tea and coffee will be available (unless otherwise stated).

Reminiscences of the Droitwich Spa Civic Society in the 1980s
40th Anniversary Dinner 2014   

The society had for many years produced newsletters to keep members informed but, with the development of digital communication, information will now be sent by email to members and selected items will appear on this website: an article the day of the printed newsletter appears to be drawing to a close had noted a change to communications previously.

'Crying over Toast'  - our Droitwich Spa Town Crier offers a talk of his busy civic role and that as toastmaster.

'Making a Difference'  - Matt Nichol the Speaker is a local business man and also the Chair of the Drioitwich Spa Place Board. In that role together with local residents he has led a number of local initiatives to enhance and improve our town.  click here

Worcester Crown Court   - A presentation by  Marguerite Collins offering a history of Worcester Crown Court, the people within it and some shocking and bemusing trials. Maguerite was a former Court Officer.  click here

Alcester Town Walk  

Please meet at the Roman Museum by 10.30am (latest) for the tour which starts at 10.35am.

Charge of £3.50 to be paid to the tour leader.

Booklets about the town are available for £3.00 each. click here

Priority will be given to Civic Society members so prompt bookings are advised! Deadline for bookings is Thursday 18th July.

Hampton Lovett Church

Hampton Lovett Church (WR9 0LU) visit:

Talk and tour start at 7.30pm in the church

Parking at Hampton Lovett Parish Hall, where introductions, refreshments and toilets are available then walk down to the church for the talk and tour.

No charge but donations to the church are welcomed - box inside church and next to the door.

'Rewilding our Waterways' - a presentation by Paul Leonard Wilinson, Senior Ecologist.

There will be examples, from his 40 years experience, of conservation projects and opportunities to recover nature along our waterways.  With examples of innovative solutions to improve our urban environments, our most precious statutory protected sites and how to connect species across our county.

A visit to the Wychbold Mast  was organised by Chris Bowers for ten members of the Droitwich History & Archaeology Society and the Droitwich Spa Civic Society.

'The Cake Lady' - Speaker Kath Ryan  will share her incredible and moving story about her work with injured soldiers.  click here

'The assembling, then dismemberment of the Chateau Deer Park' – speaker Alan Baker

John Corbett needed a more prestigious seat to boost his aspiration to become an MP. This illustrated talk focusses on the fortuitous availability of the site where he built the Chateau. The previous and subsequent history of the area he designated as a Deer Park presented both advantages and problems. What happened to the Park in the century after his death, right up to the revived Hill Climb, will reveal some surprises. click here

'Monkwood Nature Reserve, Grimley' 

A presentation by Julie Grainger, Worcestershire Wildlife Trust.  Just 11 miles away, this is a 'local' woodland reserve which boasts bluebells, wood anemones in Spring and numerous butterflies and birds.  Click here to see poster.
